Understanding our Yoga Body – preventing & working with injuries: 1-day Teacher Immersion with Iris van Opstal

Understanding our (yoga) body: a glimpse into the unique structure of our body and common ‘lifestyle’ injuries. 

In this one day intensive, we will dive deeper into the fascinating structure and characteristics of our body. We will see how every single body is unique, with its own special features and quirks, and how our lifestyle may pose challenges to keeping our body healthy. We’ll study common injuries, like (low) back issues, shoulder tension and wrist injuries, and we will discuss how to use our yoga practice to support the healing process of these injuries. In addition, we will also look into our nervous system, especially related to stress and pain, and how that affects our body, injuries and recovery.

The following topics will be covered:

  • The different anatomical layers of our body
  • Differences in body structure and how these differences affect movement and range of motion
  • Body reading to observe individual differences
  • Common injuries (spine, hip, shoulder, wrist)
  • Yoga postures to support a healthy recovery of these injuries
  • Introduction in the nervous system 
  • Yoga to calm our nervous system

This one day immersion is a treasure for yoga teachers and for practitioners of yoga dealing with injuries or physical restrictions.

Iris van Opstal

Working day and night as a marketing professional, Iris took her first yoga class in a tiny studio in Amsterdam and immediately fell in love. Inspired and at the same time with that typical Dutch down-to-earth mindset, she started a journey that would change her life completely. Nowadays, she loves to pay the gift of yoga forward. She has been (lead) teacher in multiple vinyasa and yin teacher trainings. In addition, after completing her advanced Yoga Medicine studies, she specialized in working one-on-one with people in a therapeutic setting. She feels especially inspired by the powerful way in which yoga allows you to reconnect with yourself and the people around you. With a bit of fun and a big smile, because life is serious enough as it is!
